TRÖK in February
Bird watching in Velden
Since last autumn the staffs of the ecological offices in Carinthia again meet regularly for “Treffpunkt Ökologie” (TRÖK). On the last weekend of this year’s carnival season, the participants, led by Remo Probst and Gerald Malle (both from BirdLife Austria), set out to observe water birds in the western bay of Lake Wörthersee and on the Bäckerteich pond. Besides the well known and common species, we were able to watch rare species such as common pochard, red-crested pochard and gadwall. The conditions we encountered were nearly ideal: sunshine, pleasant temperatures and both bodies of water nearly, but not entirely, frozen over.
Thank you to all participants for their contribution to this most pleasant afternoon!
