Feasibility Study for Karawanken Nature Park

Five municipalities in Eastern Karawanken had been considering starting to set up a cross-border nature park in Austria and Slovenia since 2003. E.C.O. provided the necessary basis for decision. On the basis of physiographical, scientific and socio-cultural parameters our institute analysed the opportunities and risks, which resulted in a positive evaluation of the possibility of a nature park. The study was accompanied by an intensive discussion and information process. The results showed the great potential which would be opened up by a nature park in the region of the south-eastern foothills of the Alps.
